Clarity From Day One

A successful remodel or custom home always starts with a clear plan. At Barbour Construction, we’ve refined a process that brings structure, communication, and peace of mind to every stage of your project. Clients appreciate knowing what comes next, who to expect on site, and how decisions and budgets are managed along the way. Our role is to guide you through each step with transparency, respect for your home, and a commitment to craftsmanship that stands the test of time.

Follow-Up Call

After you reach out, we’ll schedule a brief call to learn more about your project. This is a simple, conversational step where we talk through your goals, the space you’re working with, timing, and investment range. It also helps us confirm that we’re the right fit for your project before moving forward.

On-Site Meeting

Next, Paul visits your home to walk the space with you, understand how you use it today, and discuss what you’d like to improve. This meeting gives us a clearer picture of the project’s scope and any structural or architectural considerations we should plan for.

Project Development Agreement (PDA)

If the project feels like a good match, we move into a Project Development Agreement. This retainer allows us to begin preparing a detailed, accurate estimate and formalizes your place in our estimating queue. It ensures we can dedicate the time and attention needed to develop your project properly.

Detailed Estimating & Scope Development

Once the PDA is signed, we begin the behind-the-scenes work that sets the tone for a smooth build.

During this stage, we:

Prepare plans or coordinate with your architect
Walk the project with our trade partners
Gather your finish preferences for accurate allowances
Price both trade work and in-house craftsmanship
Review, compare, and verify all bids

This step takes time, but it’s essential. It’s the reason our proposals are so transparent, detailed, and trustworthy.

Proposal Review & Contract Signing

When the estimate is complete, we sit down with you to walk through every part of the proposal. We answer questions, explain allowances, and make sure you’re comfortable before moving forward.
Once the scope and investment are approved, contracts are signed, and an initial deposit is collected. This locks in your spot on our schedule.

Permitting

We take care of all permitting requirements for your project. Whether the home is newer, historic, or lakefront, we coordinate with the proper jurisdictions so your project is ready for construction without delays.

Construction & Daily Communication

Once everything is approved, production begins.

You’ll work closely with our lead carpenter and project manager, and you’ll have access to Buildertrend for:

Schedule updates
Progress photos
Messaging
Budget tracking
Selections and documents

We maintain a clean, respectful job site every day. Our clients often tell us this is one of the things they appreciate most.

Project Completion

As we near completion, we walk the space with you to review final details and ensure everything meets our standards, and yours. We address any remaining punch-list items promptly so your home is completely ready for use.

Final Handoff & Permit Close-Out

We close out all permits, wrap up documentation, and ensure you’re fully comfortable with your finished space. You’ll continue to have access to your Buildertrend project for records, selections, and communication history.
